West Bandung Regency

West Bandung Regency (Kabupaten Bandung Barat) is a regency of West Java. It was established in 2007, formerly it was part of Bandung Regency. The capital of this new regency is Ngamprah, an industrial district on the west side of Bandung. It is part of the Bandung Metropolitan Area.

According to the 2010 Census, the population of the Regency was 1,506,448; the latest official estimate (for 2014) is 1,624,179.

History

The idea of dividing Bandung Regency into two separate regencies originated in 1999, based on a proposal from the current regent (H.U. Hatta Djati Permana) for the parliament to consider and approve the idea of splitting off the western part of the existing Bandung Regency. Before the split-off was successfully completed, the Bandung suburb of Cimahi (an area consisting of three districts, which used to be part of Bandung Regency) had been promoted to became an autonomous city. After Cimahi became an autonomous administration, the request to split off the western portion of Bandung Regency as a separate regency grew.

Bandung Metropolitan Area

Bandung Metropolitan Area (Indonesian: Wilayah Metropolitan Bandung or Bandung Raya) is the metropolitan area surrounds the city of Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. It is home to roughly 8½ million people in 2014.

Location

It is located in a mountainous plateau region in the central-west portion of West Java province. It has the 2nd highest population of any metropolitan area in Indonesia after Jakarta, however, Surabaya's Zona Surabaya Pengaruh Raya aka Gerbangkertosusila (Extended Metropolitan Area) covers more area and is more populous. West Bandung Regency was carved out of Bandung Regency in 2007.

Western Java Urban Corridor

The metropolitan area lies less than 20 km from the eastern edge of the metropolitan area of Greater Jakarta ("Jabodetabekjur") near Cianjur city, and is adjacent (contiguous) with Jabodetabekjur-Cirangkarta definition for Jakarta's extended metropolitan area at its northern border with Purwakarta Regency. Beginning in Serang Regency of Banten Province, the urban corridor which Greater Bandung is a part of, is home to over 44 million people.

Bandung railway station

Bandung Station (Stasiun Bandung) or Hall Station (Stasiun Hall) is the largest train station in Bandung and perhaps in the West Java province, this is where located the "Operation Area 2" (Daop 2) which surrounding the area of Bandung and Priangan.

The station is located at Kebon Kawung Street on the central Bandung, the old station building was located at Stasiun Timur street on the southern part of the railroad, later and currently the station has its new building on the northern part of the railroad.

On the Javanese railroad system, Bandung Train Station is on Jakarta - Bandung - Yogyakarta - Surabaya railroad route or known as southern java railroad route, the station height are 709 meters above sea levels.

Bandung

Bandung (/ˈbændʊŋ/ or /ˈbɑːndʊŋ/) (Indonesian: Kota Bandung) (Dutch: Bandoeng) is the capital of West Java province in Indonesia and the country's third largest city by population, with a population of over 2,4 million in the city itself, while its sprawling built-up (or metro) area made of 2 municipalities and 38 districts had a population of 6,965,655 inhabitants at the 2010 census. Located 768 metres (2,520 ft) above sea level, approximately 140 kilometres (87 miles) south east of Jakarta, Bandung has cooler temperatures year-round than most other Indonesian cities. The city lies on a river basin surrounded by volcanic mountains. This topography provides a good natural defense system, which was the primary reason for the Dutch East Indies government's plan to move the colony capital from Batavia to Bandung.

The Dutch colonials first established tea plantations around the mountains in the eighteenth century, and a road was constructed to connect the plantation area to the capital (180 kilometres (112 miles) to the northwest). The Dutch inhabitants of the city demanded establishment of a municipality (gemeente), which was granted in 1906, and Bandung gradually developed itself into a resort city for plantation owners. Luxurious hotels, restaurants, cafes and European boutiques were opened, hence the city was nicknamed Parijs van Java (Dutch: "The Paris of Java").

Bandung (drink)

Bandung, sirap bandung, or air bandung is a drink popular in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. It consists of evaporated milk or condensed milk flavoured with rose cordial syrup, giving a pink colour. The drink is an adaptation of rose milk served in India.

Name

In the Malay language, the term bandung means "pairs", while sirap means syrup and air means "water". More broadly, bandung refers to anything that is mixed from other ingredients or comes in pairs, such as the term rumah berbandung to refer to a semi-detached house.

Despite the name, there is no connection to the city of Bandung in Indonesia, and the drink actually cannot be found there.

Details

Bandung is a favourite beverage in Malaysia, especially among Malay communities. It is usually served during Iftar in Ramadan month or wedding receptions with other foods such as nasi beriani or rendang. Modern innovations include adding grass jelly or soda water.

It may be bought pre-mixed or made at home.
